Just ran across this little gem! If you have a Windows7 laptop with a wireless adapter you no longer need a router... well that might be an overstatement, but you can turn your laptop into a wifi hotspot in a pinch.
This came in handy recently at a client site where we had only one network drop in the conference room. I plugged in my laptop, and boom everybody else in the room could share the connection over wifi!!

In my case I had to download the latest WiFi adapter driver from Intel's web site in order to make it work.... but then it was a piece of cake to setup.
